Bush tax cuts explained: Booms, Bubbles, and Busts

First of all, I’m going to answer the question on everyone’s mind. If Congress lets the tax cuts expire at the end of 2010, you will still be taxed at the lower rates (old rules) when you file in 2011. Any money you earn in 2011 will be taxed at the higher rates when you file in 2012.

Myth or Fact: New 3.8% tax on home sales?

I received an email recently with the subject line,
“Real Estate Sales Tax – Your House Sale – Healthcare Bill Inclusion !!”
Below is an excerpt from the email
“…Under the new health care bill – did you know that all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax? The bulk of these new taxes don’t kick in until 2013…if you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax.
